|Outstanding Student Scholarship|
Objective: To identify and honor an outstanding Health Information Technology and Health Information Administration student in the state of Texas.
Nominations: Nominations must be submitted by a faculty member of the student's HIT or HIA Program or a TxHIMA member who has observed the student at a clinical site.
Recommendations: In addition to the letter of nomination, each nomination must include at least two (2) letters of recommendation written by a faculty member, clinical site sponsor, co-worker or peer. One letter of recommendation must be written by the Program Director.
Qualifications: A student is eligible for nomination if he/she meets all of the following

At the bottom of the essay, it must state "This essay is my work and has not been written, composed, or edited for me by anyone" signed and dated.
**An official transcript of grades must be submitted with online nomination form and must include overall cumulative GPA and Program GPA major. The GPA should be calculated through the most current semester**
Judging: The award decision rests with the TxHIMA Board of Directors. This body shall evaluate the candidates based upon information supplied by the nomination applications. All applications will be evaluated by the Board of Directors with identifying information deleted to assure anonymity and objectivity in the judging. Although a student or students may be nominated, the Board is not compelled to select an annual recipient.
Notification: The award winners shall be notified, in writing, by the Past President of the Texas Health Information Management Association prior to the TxHIMA Annual Meeting in June. The formal presentation of the awards will be made by the President of TxHIMA during ceremonies at the TxHIMA Annual Convention. Winners not able to attend the Annual Convention will receive awards via US mail, no later than 30 days post-convention.
Application Period: Applications open January 1st of each year and will be posted to the TxHIMA website and emailed to AHIMA / TxHIMA Members.
Application Deadline: All nominations must be submitted by April 25th, in order to be considered for the current year's award. Any applications received after that date will not be considered.
